Say Chance

Im Kelly. And I dont like to talk about myself. I hate self-indulgent biographies that are too dry to wash down and too impressive to relate to. Lucky for me, (incredibly lucky for that matter), I get to tell my favorite story and label it as a bio. Just wonderful!

So for about a year, I had been uploading videos to the Internet of me playing some of my favorite songs. I was a living room musician, with a glitchy webcam and an internal laptop microphone, but fortunately developed a following. I was perusing the web one day for versions of a song I wanted to cover when I came across two girls singing their souls out at an open mic. I was literally blown away. There isnt much else I can tell you about the whole thing, except that I loved everything about them and their performance. I was moved, and I had to let them know.

I reached out to the girls and we discussed putting together a viral collaboration; I would send them instrumental cuts, and they would send me vocal tracks. In the process of figuring out the logistics of file sharing and arrangement of the song, we became incredibly close. Their names were Maddie and Taylor, two best friends from a suburb in Maryland. They loved music and they were amazing. Absolutely amazing.

The girls were coming to California for their Spring Break, and we decided to meet up. Needless to say, it was the most amazing four days of my life. We spent some time in my hometown of Sacramento, CA, and took the last night on the beach in Monterey. I saw the most beautiful things, heard the most astonishing blends of sound, and was touched more deeply than I ever had been, all within the span of a few days. Everything just clicked with the girls. The three of us became fast best friends and dreamed of the possibility of playing music together forever.

The vacation came to an abrupt close, and I was painfully jerked back to reality. In the aftermath of it all, however, it was impossible for me to ignore what I had been blessed with: a friendship that would last a lifetime. It started with the music, but developed into something much deeper. It was so pure and so good, to say the absolute least. It was that feeling you get when a song covers your body with the chills, and you cant understand why or how its happening. But you know that it is. And it feels incredible.

So cutting to the chase and all the cheesy details, were now known as Say Chance. After that visit, the girls and I made a point to see each other every few months. We made our occasional music video, but for the most part, we lounged around and behaved like normal teenagers. By some divine miracle, everything started falling into place, and our dream of becoming a band was suddenly a reality.

There you have it. The story of Say Chance. Now we just write a whole bunch of music together.

I cant wait to grow up and old with Maddie, Taylor, and all the rest of you.
